The proposed mechanism of Hydroxychloroquine is as an anti-inflammatory which will moderate the immune response and maybe decrease the mortality rate.
But it won't "stop" or "cure" coronavirus infections, and it's efficacy is unproven. And there is always the danger that anxious people will overdose on supposed "cures" or preventitive medicines and poison themselves.
So we should wait and see the results of properly conducted scientific trials to see if there is actually a benefit or not.
