China Announces Acceleration Of Water Conservation Projects To Offset Economic Impacts Of Coronavirus

BEIJING, CHINA

The Chinese Ministry of Water Resources is developing a series of approximately 100 water conservation projects worth over $140 Billion USD over a period of three years. The majority of the projects have already been in the planning stages but construction is being accelerated at this time to offset the economic impact of coronavirus, Shi Chunzian, head of project planning told Chinese state media last week.

Official estimates are that every $14 Billion USD investment causes a .15 percent increase in GDP and creates close to 500,000 job opportunities. It is believed that the projects will be “fast-tracked” through the preparation phase.

The Ministry reported that construction on 100 projects will resume by the end of March, with only 9 left in regions constrained by continuing winter conditions. There are almost 100,000 workers associated with these project, with no reported cases of infections in the workforce.
