I'm happy to agree that the jury is still out. But I reckon that the real (long term) future is nuclear. Why am I not surprised that South Australia is pouring money into Hydrogen when at best the jury is still out? Well, they poured vast public funds into unreliable renewables only to see electricity prices skyrocket and the grid seriously threatened. If they can't learn from that then maybe they can't learn from anything.

The article you link says "Commercial green hydrogen is typically produced from water using an electrolyser – powered by renewable energy". That means that the final amount of energy available from the hydrogen will be less than the amount of renewable energy used to produce it (the laws of physics apply). Probably a lot less. There are some advantages, such as it being a better use of renewable energy than putting renewable energy into the grid and stressing the grid, and such as it making the energy available in places (eg. vehicles) that the original renewable energy is not available, but IMHO the overall equation means that on a level playing field it will always be seriously uncompetitive.

On IRD: SP has spent a long time with 5c as its almost impregnable low. I've seen this pattern before and it seems always to end badly. I sold out of IRD at 11c at an unpleasant loss and I'm keeping an eye on it with the hope of maybe sticking my toe back in below 1c. But if it goes ballistic instead then I'll say well done to holders.
