The government is running its narrative on the basis of a 6 month shutdown. I've never heard them articulate where that figure comes from. On one hand they're saying words like "lockdown" should not be used because they cause anxiety, then they're running a timeline that must be causing anxiety by telling people they'll be unable to socialise for 6 months. Does the timeline have any basis to it other than a political purpose of being one that they should comfortably beat?

Probably an arbitrary time frame.
Maybe they use two quarters in their modelling.
