You make perfect sense to me.
Semi log charts are a distortion of reality for convenience.
Amazingly, it works well in many instances in it's own right but you could compress the price data in many other ways too.
If I have a chart in log format with the option to change it back to linear I always make the change because I want to see the real picture of price over time.
