It might be interesting if Wesfarmers made an offer. How would Mt Weld be valued? For Wesfarmers it might be viewed as carried in the Annual Report at cost, but I believe the shareholders would view it at a much higher value as rare earths support a great deal of industrial production. More than five large, international brokerages, oversee over 600 million shares of Lynas and I would question whether fiduciary responsibilities to shareholders would require these companies to demand a significant value added component for Mt Weld. Custodial responsibilities demand that from the companies or shareholders might request an explanation for fees paid to these collective ten companies as listed in the Lynas Annual Report.
To me it seems that many companies have responsibilities to insure shareholder gains or face class act lawsuits for lack of oversight to shareholders they represent. The brokerage houses might be in a tight spot should Westfarmers make another bid and they fail to protect shareholders..
