Three assumptions you make which are wrong in my opinion:
* millions are already infected with the virus in Italy - this is a theory and not a very good one * Italy's deaths have peaked - well no they haven't, over 3100 (25% of total) in just the last 4 days, 25,000 more cases in the last few days * Italy's control is not mainly due to lockdown - this is just a silly statement - of course lockdown has played a major role
Of course lack of preparation was a major early contributor but preparation alone will not prevent significant deaths and loss of control of the health system. Isolation and stemming the speed of spread will.
This is not doomsday scenario, the human species is not going to disappear. It's not a charade, it's reality and we're seeing it through our own eyes.
