In terms of accuracy I don’t think prick testing competes. I don’t think anyone would ever claim that it’s a gold standard method of defining infection.

It does however have a place in the control of the spread of Covid. There’s going to be a capacity limitation on full pathology type testing for the foreseeable future so rapid testing will have a place.

Where I see the main opportunity will be in opening up people movement. Let’s say you can in minutes eliminate 80-90% of viral cases crossing a state or regional border to get to work, family, home,that’s a large % that tests like this can address. It’s not practical to have people wait overnight at an airport for pathology labs to return tests but 15 minutes for a lower accuracy test isn’t likely to be a problem.

So yeah, Trumps an idiot but I agree that these tests have a place.

BTW did you see what his tweets done to oil overnight last night? He stated that OPEC and Russia were going to cut production by 10-15 million bbls a day, oil jumped 30%. Now this is clearly a ridiculous statement. Between Saudi and Russia they produce about 25m bbls a day. Russia called BS. To think that they may drop 60% of production to appease Trump is ludicrous but the market responded all the same.

He’s now backing finger prick blood testing so right or wrong so will many others in the world...
