I can't believe how most people have welcomed this load of largess. Only a few months ago we had earnest Lindsay Tanner telling us how tough the government had to be to cut spending in order for them to create this marvelous surplus. At the same time Swann was running around saying that the inflation genie was out of the bottle - all Costello's fault.
Today - bang - write a cheque for $10.4b, including this crazy home buyers gift. And the opposition just stands alongside it and applauds.
Only person I heard critical of it today was Stephen Mayne - he's a legend.
