it's a fair question to ask what's going on in Victoria. why did the Crown prosecutor even go ahead with the trail? but as far as the police are concerned all they need to do is get the charge though a committal hearing to a higher court, so that there is "a case to answer" (not the same as proof beyond a reasonable doubt) if the Crown decides after the committal hearing not to proceed with the case, the police have still done their job. (well they think so anyway!) how do I know this? I spent 20 years in the Queensland police...(not Victoria but it would be similar...or was)
