The West Australian Lobster industry was the first commercial fishing industry to get the Green Tick logo, as in sustainability accreditation.
Unfortunately over 90% of the catch goes to China.
The price in late January was approximately $85Aud, we totally shut down at the end of January and we can fish now but the prices have been between $20 and $30 a kg with the current price being $26ish.
The product gets to China in the spare luggage space on those international passenger flights, normally but as we know!
They’re “Blue Ducked” (think of a word that rhymes with that) at the moment so it is the frightening costs that are killing the price at the moment.
I haven’t had an income since the end of January and I expect that we I do start my income will be cut in half as a best case scenario.
A minimum of 2-3 years for it to realign is my guess.
