But there is no treatment for ARDS associated with COVID 19, only supportive care. 80% of people die when put on a ventilator.
It is not comparing the price of treatments, it is deciding the price you are willing to pay for a life.

It has been quoted that about 50% of doctors in emergency departments in Italy are now dead. How long will it take to retrain those doctors?
About 10 years. That is how long it will take before their health care system is back up to efficiency. And how many more will die while they wait for that?

Patients in nursing homes in Spain were abandoned and left to die because the staff were too frightened that they would also die. How much are those lives worth?

You talk extremes. MSB treatment is not worth $1M per patient. It is currently being used in Japan. Check out how much they charge per patient.
It is provided on compassionate use in America to save children with aGVHD. The cost is not $1M dollars per person. The cost of treating a person with COVID 19 using MSC is less than the cost of keeping them in intensive care and certainly, in my opinion, cheaper than the lives lost.

You want to talk economics? What about the hit to our economy in our effort to control this disease? This will be eased if we can control deaths and reduce time in intensive care. The pressure on intensive care beds is what is determining our lockdown. Until we get a vaccine, we continue to be at risk of contracting this disease. If death rates reduce and pressure on hospital beds reduces then we come out of lockdown. That in itself will pay for this treatment.
