There was a very interesting article about the debt in the Herald by Jessica Irvine. What is happening is the Reserve Bank is printing money to buy Government bonds pushing down the interest rate to ridiculously low levels. Her take is the debt won't actually matter much because the rates of repayments will be so low and stay low. Moreover because of demand disintegration inflation is not on the table. Now the US Fed is printing money and buying corporate and other bonds. The debt argument is a complete furphy governments will simply print money knowing the big bugbear hyperinflation is off the table because of demand disintegration. Ambrose Pritchard made exactly this point in the Financial Times. So no I don't think your assertion has legs.
