If the death rate is one per two thousand infected (as it seems to be in Europe - no comment on fantasy Chinese figures), and the annual average death-rate from all causes is 16 for every two thousand of the whole population, exposed to cvirus or not, the answer is that, yes, they will be more distressed by far by seeing their economy collapse, their lives reduced to a kindergarten, and hearing non-stop messages aboput how they're all going to die etc.
