The greater the pressure and temperature drop across the turbine the greater the power output.
Condensing the steam after the turbine causes an the steam to colapse, making a vaccuum and maximising the temperature drop over the turbine.
I think a 50 MW turbogenerator will reject about 50 MW of heat to the condenser. So the condenser will require some big fans. Convection won't do it.
