Great points and agree that IVV*, VTS, VAS and IAA are good picks. I would also add VEU to that list. You will beat 90% of SP500 active funds with an etf like IVV. There are two main reasons (for anyone reading who doesn't already know):
1. Lower fees
2. A few stocks will drive a large portion of the returns and most investors will miss these. Admittedly it does mean that in that 10% that do beat the index there will be some that beat it by a huge margin.
Good to see common sense on HC in a few of the forums, instead of cheerleaders for each company. We should be sceptical of the BAP SPP, but on balance I will probably participate.
*IVV returns have been flattered due to the falling AUD/USD. I think it is fair to say returns will not be as high over the next 10 years.
This site is a great site for ETF info and for anyone thinking of ETFs, understanding the holding structure is a must.
