    No argument houses are getting biggerand this does to a degree cause a distortion between things like wage growth and housing costs

    But

    this has been a trend that has gone on for 30 plus years, as a rule a 1970's house is bigger than a 1960's house and 1980's are bigger again. There have also been vast savings made in construction methods and materials not to mention the quality of a basic home now is now where near what it was say 30 years ago.

    Taking this into account though the deviation between earnings, the CPI and housing costs has only greatly blown out in the last 10 years.

    Housing is one of the only areas this has really happened, in 1980 a base model commodre was equivilant to the average annual salary at the time

    a base madel commodore is now about 2/3 the average annual salary and like housing you are buying more car for your dollar than you were in 1980.
