Hard to get numbers but my logic is:
3.5 affected MPS suffers born out of every 100,000 births.
US Population 350 million.
Birth rate roughly 1.8%..that's 6.3 million (I think its actually closer to 6.7 million odd).
6.3 million divided by 100,000 is 63 ...63 x 3.5 = 220 new cases per year.
Ave life expectancy possibly around 25? 25 x 220 = 5500 ? Maybe round down to 5000.
Ive heard figures of around 10,000 cases and assumed this was US and Europe combined perhaps?
Hard to get figures on number of actual patients. Easier to get % birth rates for MPS.
