I struggle with the idea that half the patients may die who aren't getting the treatment just in the name of science. I never understand this side of things. Surely we have seen enough death and statistics to know if it is working or not. Giving people a placebo and then saying, well only 11% survived out of the placebo group. If i was a relative that lost somebody on the placebo, i wouldn't be happy to know someone decided to risk my family members life for the sake of science.
but alas i suppose we are not the only treatment being trialed and the science needs to know. It's would be hard on the Dr and nurses giving care to placebo patients that die knowing that across the hall the others lived, through a ballot? Wow...... or am i being naive on this?
