Useless trinkets - you mean like processed food, pharmaceuticals, steel, cement, tech and communications goods, etc, etc, etc. Not to mention export dollars.
Those kind of “useless trinkets”?
We wont give up any “useless trinkets”. We would make them here at substantially lower productivity and higher cost. Lowering the overall standard of living for all Australians, with the exception of a few billionaires.
Nationalism always imposes a cost on ordinary people. Dick Smith understood this. He took certain brands and drove a nationalistic ad campaign to increase sales and prices . Then sold the companies to Chinese buyers. Genius really, use the emotion of his China hating customers to drive the price he would get from Chinese foreign owners.
Dick makes Forrest look like an amateur.
