As for fuel I work in the Petrochemical Industry. Lubricating oils are the issue that we have a problem with the moment. There are sufficient gas reserves in this country to synthesise all the required petroleum and also the lubricating oils. This would require the utilisation of Fisher Tropsch synthesis technology(look it up if you must) This would only be economical if the oil price assumptions were to go to say $250 bucks a barrel and stay there to pay back the considerable capital required to construct the plants. Despite your unfortunate and mistaken desire to paint us as some sort of Japan down south the bottom line is that we are one of the most bountiful and resource rich nations on the Earth. Back on theme you can wander around your turnip patch wearing a sack and pretending to be a peasant farmer I will be eating a Lobster.(hmmmm yummy)
