Let's not forget Keating's Irish Catholic background. Many Irish Catholics were against participating in Britain's war esp as the British army had done them no favours over the years. Keating despised grovelling to the English establishment and even dared to 'lay a hand on the Queen'. Conservatives in Aust and the UK were outraged. Tossers. Keating is a principled man not like the jelly-backed poll-driven mob at present. Oh and the Musical was a cracker.
