Now here is another thing you should watch out for !
I have twice been in the situation like today, last day to get some kind of entitlement, rush to get set at the close. And some scammer shorter spiv has sold me shares he didnt own and defaulted on the settlement for a few days. And then delivered to me ex-entitlement shares. So I didn't get the entitlement.
And although he is delivering ex-entitlement shares to you which you bought in good faith on market at a pre-entitlement price, you lose ! You have to complete the trade even if the other party is late, and even though he does not deliver what you paid for!
Happened to me twice about 2 years ago. It would not surprise me at all if some of the spivs were doing it this afternoon, I am sure they can make one of the loopholes which is allowing short selling to continue.
