It seems we're entering an unprecedented deflationary era. The only asset that assuredly increases in real value (ie. purchasing power) during deflation is cash. After the deflation has run its course, perhaps only a few years from now, those who have secured their cash would be able to purchase stocks, bonds, commodities and property et al for a fraction of current prices. Not only is safety relative, so is value.
