In what way would a trade war affect Afterpay? A trade war uses tarrifs on imported goods and effectively encourages importers to buy from other countries. None of this impacts Afterpay.

When compared to Huawei not being allowed to build a 5G network it's also different. Once a 5G infrastructure has been built you are essentially stuck with it, hence the ban on using a chinese company.

Afterpay is an Australian company with a chinese company taking a small stake. Afterpay does not deal in "strategic industries" such as telecommunication and defense and is therefore under much less scrutiny.

I think anyone saying tencent will have an impact on US operations does not understand the above points. The market reaction since the announceme t gives you a good indication of how other investors outside of hotcopper and AFR value this deal.
