Been stalking a few charts myself today . There were loads of shares for sale, at my requested buy in price, but the second I put an order in, the shares available for sale disappear. So I put in an order for a pip higher , and those shares disappear . So I put in a pip higher (as it was still good value) and I got those - those ones probably didn't belong to the market maker. The rest at that price disappeared. As soon as I bought those, the market maker put back all his shares for sale at the cheaper price . It ended one pip lower than my buy in price. It may be quite difficult to buy shares near the bottom. Hadn't expected that.
