The expectation that humans will not occasionally be beaten down by microbes is unrealistic. It's an inevitable outcome of the natural processes of genetics, humans living in close proximity to animals, relying heavily on animals for food etc.
People seem so keen to disparage China because some people eat wild animals. I suspect racism is the reason. There's really no moral difference to Australians and Americans eating huge quantities of pork, beef, chicken etc. Industrial production of these more 'acceptable' sources of protein involve high risk practices for human health. E.g. feeding massive quantities of antibiotics for no good reason other than to increase yield/weight of animals. This generates antibiotic resistant bacteria that kill people, cause massive problems in hospitals, and may make taken for granted activities like surgery and cancer treatment too risky. We also cut corners to save money causing massive outbreaks of food poisoning which also kill people, including children ch. These outbreaks often spread across countries.
So while COVID-19 likely originated in China, 'Western' societies are more than capable of creating microbes that take thousands of lives. We havent yet shut down economies to control any of them but we are in no position to assume moral high ground. Do we expect the world to come after us if the next highly destructive superbug emerges from our pork or chicken farms?
Humans cannot entirely control microbes and we are continuously creating conditions to encourage new and powerful ones to emerge. Humans want to dominate the natural world but don't ALWAYS succeed. Pandemics are inevitable therefore we need medical technologies to respond. Luckily MSB has something to offer in this instance.
