Recently there has been media speculation that the WA Govt maybe interested in buying back the Alinta assets that they sold back in 1999 - 2000.

What I find interesting is that the Alinta assets under discussion are the assets which are now owned by BBP (Power Stations and Gas trading etc), but the main asset that was sold by the Govt was the Gas distribution network and operations, and these are now owned by BBI and managed by Westnet Energy, not BBP.

I would have thought that the Govt would be more interested in the gas distribution network rather than who sends out the gas bills, and when the Govt sold Alinta, they didn't have any power generation !

    Can anyone else elaborate ?
