All home loans over 80% are mortgage insured. That is if their is a loss borne by the bank then the mortgage insurer covers the loss and all expenses.
The borrower pays for the mortgage insurance.
The above facts seem to be ignored by investors.
Also, the fact that they only go to 90% would be because the mortgage insurer has now reduced the lending ratio that they will now insure at.
The banks have very limited exposure to a fall in residential home prices if any !
