JK5,
Its just typical behaviour across all markets, shares (whether big cap or small cap), metals, currencies and also across all time periods (eg. mthly, wkly, etc down to 1 min). Everything trades within price channels and when they break up or down then there are consequences.
I'm not clear on why it works on every level but it is consistent with the theories of Armstrong and others about cycles etc which act consistently on many different levels.
Part of the reason is because of market participants using TA but there's more to it. Eg. markets, indexes, individual shares etc all behaved exactly the same back in the 1920s for instance.
You just need to accept what happens and not overanalyse why it works.
