- If he was white, it almost certainly would have never gotten to this stage. After doing the field sobriety test the cops would have maybe served him with a summons, but more likely let him off with a warning. Then, they’d have called him a taxi, and gotten a tow truck for the car (if they didn’t just park it neatly themselves). There was simply no need for an arrest here in the first place.
A TASER is a single shot device, whose activation looks and sounds nothing like a gun. Any trained cop should know that. The guy fired it wildly over his shoulder while running, probably thinking in his befuddled state that it would scare them into giving him a few more seconds lead. Instead, they put three bullets in his back. I repeat: they shot him in the back. A cop who wasn’t just looking to kill would have laughed, let him run, then picked him up in the morning at the height of his hangover.
My verdict: poorly trained meatheads escalated a simple drunk&disorderly way beyond anything justified, and a guy ended up dead. If they weren’t cops, they’d already be locked up.
