India and Australia can and should develop a highly complementary economic relationship. To avoid reliance on any particular country Australia needs to diversify is relationships and re-engineer, all the while retaining a good economic relationship with China.
Personally I don't like so called "populist" politicians anywhere and regardless of what crack in the bathroom wall they crawl out of. Populist manifestos most often fail because they are typically divisive, not based on sound economics and / or rule of law .
I'm not across Indian politics ATM but I recognise India's economic power, technological capacity, overall scale and strategic position.
