But there's nothing on Eddington's CV that suggests he should be made chairman of one of Australia's big four banks - an immensely important, indeed, absolutely vital, highly-geared financial institution. And it's all the harder to justify as he would step into that job as a complete outsider without even a year or two learning a couple of the ropes as a director of a real bank, never mind ANZ's cultural challengers. Opes Prime, anyone?
