Bigger core, bigger sample. Important with high-nugget gold. Also, bigger diameter straighter holes less deviation, but higher cost and slightly lower productivity (usually).
Do note BGL is using a new assaying technique called 'photon assay', which uses a larger assay sample size and bombards with x-rays as opposed to the traditional fire assay method. Havent seen too many other companies using it, so looks like BGL geos are first movers on this.
