    I suppose you have seen the stats that show those under 35 see the future as rosey ahead, while those older are more worried.

    This is a good thing in many respects, I guess.

    In the recent past it has been the young that have seen doomsday everywhere, from nuclear winters to climate disaster.

    It certainly is unusual, but the fact that the young have been invariable too pessimistic, may suggest that this time they are wrong again.

    In the past the idealism of youth has wrought change from war opposition to civil rights, but now they seem complacent.

    What has happened to radical thought from our youth? It is not important whether it is best, but the lack of any original thought is perplexing.

    I love the the battle between conservatism, usually from those comfortably off and the radicalism of those who see the inequities in society.

    Conservatism is a brake on every whim thrown up by new thought, so that only lengthy persistence and genuine argument pervails.

    Sorry to throw this is to the XJO thread.
