Certainly there is no evidence pointing to any one “parent” language as the source of all the thousands of tongues now spoken. The evidence, instead, points to the many “parent” languages begun at Babel.
But many languages precede Babel so I don't think that Babel was the parent.
Find the origins of languages and their respective alphabets and you find the origins of man.
