I see BHP as being very smart with this, Austpac gets them to 98% Snowstorm makes it pure TiO2 and Metalysis converts it to metal. Pull all three together they compliment each other rather than compete. Metalysis need high purity TiO2 to take the step to metal so it doesn't do the same as Austpac. Snowstorm can do the same as Austpac (except the iron co-product) but appears more costly, however it can make a higher purity TiO2. My take would be it would do this better and cheaper if it started with a 98% pure syn rutile, just a guess but a very effective segue from illmenite to metal
