A lot cheaper to ship lithium carbonate than spodumene ore.
Also, lithium hydroxide is not very stable (hygroscopic) so not ideal for long-distance shipping (unlike lithium carbonate). Not to mention that lithium carbonate is the feedstock for lithium iron phosphate batteries which seem to be the flavour of the month at the moment.
