Donald Trump has been in favor of returning to a gold standard. Trump's nomination to a vacant position on the Federal Reserve is Judy Shelton who has also indicated a return to a gold standard. Her appointed is yet to be confirmed. Any economic decision making is now believed to be by the US Treasury removing dependency from the Federal Reserve. The head of the US Treasury is Steven Mnuchin appointed by Trump.

Reuters reported on 26 May "... Swiss exports of gold to the United States leapt to 111.7 tonnes in April — by far the biggest monthly total on record — while shipments to other destinations dwindled ....".
