I also tried second guessing the equity markets and got exposure to BBOZ. Cut the loss and removed the directional bias by adding some equities that are performing much better interim. The AUD was just a side issue as any loss was more a gamble, more like a bashing of the confidence than any real $.

Don't think buying gold as a way of second guessing the market is comparable to holding a leveraged shorting tool. If you just hold 10% gold, you can be much more aggressive with your strategies. Not really fighting the trend, you're just insured against the worst so you can go along with the trend.
