"As they say, the price of peace is eternal vigilance."

what they don't say is that the price of peace is the cost of not making enemies

what future is there for humans if our only ways of peace are to arm ourselves so much that it makes it too costly for a competitor to attack and defeat us?

bloody good if you're an arms supplier no doubt

the way forward must be for humans (if we are indeed to survive) - has to be cooperation

there's a problem there ----------- it's in our nature to war it seems --------- certainly in the nature and character of leaders we choose - because it's pretty much always leadership that takes us to war

the rather unfortunate possibility is that humans actually use war as an evolutionary culling tool - something, which if it's correct - is a bit difficult to get around

there is - very unfortunately a BIG problem with the beautiful system that nature has given us of killing each other to make sure that the weak are culled and the fittest survive - and, that is

that in a high technology era ---------- that mankind will develop weapons that are very capable at extinguishing all life ---------- and, that it's just a matter of time before there's one human born who is prepared to use such weapons ---------------- and, that - will just put out the lights forever

so much for a grand evolutionary and life system

to avoid that ------- humans need to circumnavigate their very nature - by, working out some way of cooperating and probably working out some way of culling the weak without going to war with each other

if we do not - then, the cost of not finding that - is ------------ extinction

and, not only extinction of humans - but, of all life on earth

that's a pretty big price to pay
