China has been losing military conflicts to foreign powers for....like....ever

before the short war with Vietnam there was Japanese occupation during WWII, Japanese occupation of Manchuria, British opium wars etc.

this is a huge public shame in China which cannot be addressed through economic might.....

.....and that is a scary thought....because at some point China will want to write a new chapter that could be used to cover over past defeats....and the only way to do that is to go to war
