    Hi 1sharetrader1,

Your criticism of products where the quality standard can only be defined as crap is well justified. But maybe think a bit more about where to lay the blame.

The manufacturer whether in China or in Australia will manufacture to the standard specified by the wholesaler/retailer and if the prime specification is "as cheap as possible" then that is what will be delivered and in the absence of mandated standards we will continue to be flooded with shoddy products and seemingly out of control growing mountains of rubbish polluting our planet. The shame is that it costs very little extra to manufacture a quality product that lasts but unfortunately that is not in the financial interests of the manufacturer, wholesaler and retailer all of whose interests are given priority by government.

If our planet is protected from being swamped by rubbish and resources being available for future generations I suspect it will only be if it consumer driven, which means you and me demanding quality in all our purchases. Quality is achievable, I think of cars remembering my first new car back in the 1960s and the regular visits back to the dealer in the warranty period and regular subsequent visits to the local garage. My current car is 15 years old, had no work required in the warranty period and apart from the six monthly "grease and oil change" has only had tyres and brake linings changed.

There is hope for a better world but only if consumers give a bit of thought to it. Maybe this thread might come up with some practical solutions so how about it?
