Accepting that any person caught up in the OPES wrangle will have ill-feelings towards ANZ, the fact remains this issue is very minor in the overall picture. To consider that irrevocable damage has been done to their name/reputation is wishful thinking. To put some numbers on it - 1,000 affected people each convince 10 of the friends to close their accounts with ANZ would equate to (at a guess) about .002% of ANZ's clients.
Similarly to classify other events as "debacles" is (IMHO) also misplaced - rather they are part and parcel of everyday business banking. Albeit business activities which obviously not many realise take place.
Getting to the rights issue talk, with the exception of ctindale, not one person has put forward a valid reason why such an issue would/could even be necessary.
