aaah need. Yes that’s very true. For some it’s an unbearable itch. For others it’s a bit mwah meh. For me it’s somewhere in between but I know it’s essential to my being. My art wouldn’t necessarily be labelled art by people though others tell me it is. I’m not even sure what art is.

Some people are so meticulously precise about what they do but I’ll never be that way. I know it. But I don’t do it for others. I do it for me. I like it when people say something looks good but it’s not what drives me.

as for what one likes. That’s interesting. I’m not even sure that I think in those terms any more. I know what pleases my eye. I know what doesn’t but sometimes what doesn’t is fascinating. Many of my friends are artists and earn a living that way - pleasing others with what they make. But it’s so varied and unique I must have just learnt to appreciate their creativity more than to think of like or dislike - or what falls into the like category is broader. Or maybe I’m in awe. I don’t know what’s going on but I do know I’m less constrained by traditional concepts of art than I once was

though I went to an exhibition of Caravaggio in sydney once and was spell bound. This was a man who must have been tortured. He killed someone else in a fit of rage but his paintings have a richness and depth to them and his use of light was brilliant. I’ve seen plenty of the masters in real life many lauded for their use of light but his left me stunned more than many others.

anyway long may the desire to fiddle and create exist - useless or otherwise.

let’s see if @Justis will let go and have a go - bending his coat hangers into something completely meaningless. (Btw if you like cars for more then their motors then it’s probably the shape and maybe the colour. If that’s the case the foundations of art are in you ).
