Welcome to NVX, did you know the DPMG patent was done using natural graphite. So if NVX wanted to they could process natural graphite with DPMG using no chemicals at all, which I believe would be the most greenest option.
However, performance is the key factor at NVX they want to have the best performing product and all research points to synthetic being better than natural.
