One benefit of the trolls ( if you could call it that ) is that they encourage me to do even more research on things I'm already interested in.

They come out with bogus claims that might sound pretty plausible initially. However, when you dig a little deeper you find that they're usually leaving a whole bunch of relevant information out . Information that puts a completely different slant on the story.

I guess they work on the theory that people don't fact check ?

I know of a couple of people personally, coincidentally older white right wing males , that believe everything they hear on SKY after dark despite much evidence to the contrary. As you say, they appear to be rusted on regardless of the evidence right in front of them.
