When I look at new speculative investments I generically think about where a company will be 3-5 years from now. I then look at what they are doing now and what their strategy is and then do lots of research to try and value the 3-5 year potential. That means looking at similar companies that are more advanced.
I have to second guess what a company will do. I did this heavily with ADN. ADN was tricky because their resource is unique so I had to do a lot of research to try and understand it.
