@etherazerThe word avoid is used broadly. Without an adjective before it there is no hint of wilful action. The word is "vanilla".
An alternative word such as "dodge" does bring with it some connotation of wilful avoidance. Nobody used such an expression on this thread.
If I said Fred avoided being hurt because he missed a bus that later crashed......... I'm not blaming Fred. Fred wasn't driving the bus and he didn't anticipate that it would crash.
Maybe you deserve a yell in the ear. There are other things to talk about.
