    What makes you think that MSB technology is better protected through trade secrets than patents?
    There would not be a pharma/biotech innovator in the world that shares that view. It makes no sense.
    There is a role for trade secrets if you can't get effective patent protection but if you can, then you would go for it --- a patent gives you a legal monopoly that can keep others out of your market for 10 -15 years or more years. It will usually give you a much stronger moat than a trade secret that is only good for as long as the secret lasts or until someone else re-invents the wheel.
    Some pharma/biotechs get their patent protection and then develop additional trade secret prorection around it (in relation to matters of detail & refinement) if they don't choose to double down with still more patent protection. But the idea that a business that is built on IP would pass on patent protection in favour of a trade secret for either products or processes in the pharma/biotech area doesn't hold water.
